One of the most authentic Spanish desserts. Crema Catalana is made with milk versus cream, and often incorporates lemon peel and cinnamon. Ingredients - whole milk to ensure creamy and delicious Crema Catalana - big slice of peel from a lemon and an orange note - cinnamon stick is very important characteristic of the dessert - large egg yolks from the best quality eggs - superfine sugar to create creamy custard and thin layer of crunchy caramel topping - additional sugar to caramelize on top - fresh fruit like figs, raspberries or strawberries to top |
Churros
A churro is a type of fried dough from Spanish and Portuguese cuisine and it's one of the best desserts. Churros are simply a type of fried dough made of flour, water,salt and covered with brown sugar and cinnamon or maybe chocolate. Ingredients - 1 cup (250ml) water - 1/4 cup (56g) unsalted butter, diced into small cubes - 1 Tbsp (13g) granulated sugar - 1/4 tsp salt - 1 cup (141g) all-purpose flour (scoop and level to measure) - 1 large egg - 1/2 tsp vanilla extract - Vegetable oil for frying Ingredients for coating - 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar - 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon - chocolate syrup - seasonal fresh fruits |
Milk Torrijas
Torrijas originated in Spain during the 15th Century and were created by Catholic nuns. What is this? Torrijas are associated with Lent because they were invented during Holy Week. Torrijas is stale bread slices soaked in milk and eggs, pan fried, and topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar or honey. Ingredients - 4 large eggs - vanilla - 1 liter (about a quart) of whole milk - 1 cup of sugar (200g) - 2 teaspoons of cinnamon - 3 tablespoons of honey - Extra Virgin Olive Oil (good quality) - 1 strip of lemon peel - 1 strip orange peel - 1 teaspoon of cardamom seeds - 1 star anise (optional) - A thick bar of slightly stale bread - chocolate syrup (by choice) |
